Em março de 1989, portanto a exatos 25 anos, Tim Berners-Lee apresentou ao seu chefe Mike Sendall, uma proposta do que viria a ser a World Wide Web. A resposta ao seu projeto veio em um frase: ‘vague but exciting’ (algo como ‘vago mas empolgante’), a partir daí Tim Bernes-Lee pode dar prosseguimento ao seu projeto de um sistema de documentos em hipermídia universal, interligados e executados na Internet.

Por conceito o projeto deveria ser: universal, aberto, descentralizado e gratuito. Foi graças a estes princípios que a Web que conhecemos hoje se popularizou de uma forma tão rápida e hoje esta acessível a 1/3 da população do planeta.

Celebrando os 25 anos

Para celebrar os 25 anos da World Wide Web, foi criado um site: webat25.org. Nele Tim Bernes-Lee conta um pouco da história e aponta os novos desafios da World Wide Web.
